About the Artist...
Don Wilder's
home and studio are perched atop a cedar and oak covered ridge overlooking the
Zumbro River, ten miles north of Rochester, Minnesota. From this high vantage
point, he can watch eagles, herons, egrets, Canada geese, turkey vultures and a
variety of ducks as they pass almost in front of his eyes.
The artist
is accomplished in pencil, ink and in the almost lost art of etching. Today he
concentrates primarily in oil, watercolor and gouache. Don enjoys
painting a wide variety of subjects. He also does commissioned work from
favorite photographs and would be happy to talk to interested parties about
their ideas.
Don's work
exhibits a meticulous knowledge of subject with a genuine love and respect for
the reality of our present world. There is a contemplative, quiet aura, almost
a hidden modesty in these nature scapes. The combination of subtle
nuances with forthright reality and sincerity results in powerful and enduring
works of art.
Don's fine
art background has been polished by over 30 years experience as an
artist, including several years with Josten's, a firm which has seen its art
staff become some of Minnesota's premier fine artists, especially in the
wildlife field. He has exhibited at many nationally juried, prestigious shows
where acceptance is highly competitive. These include the National Wildlife Art
Show in Kansas City and the Oklahoma Wildlife Art Show in Tulsa. He also was a
founding member of the Southeast Minnesota Visual Artists (SEMVA), a cooperative gallery in Rochester and owned his own gallery in Alma, Wisconsin for several years.
